【詞根詞源】ambiguous的來源.

　　ambiguous adj. 模棱兩可的，含糊不清的

　　使用ambiguous一詞的第一人似乎是英國人文主義者莫爾(Sir Thomas More，1477-1535)，他在《關于異端的對話》(A Dialogue Concerning Heresies，1528)一書中寫道：“If it were now doubtful and ambiguous whether the church of Christ were in the right rule of doctrine or not.”

　　該詞來自拉丁語ambiguus&aposdoubtful&apos，而ambiguus又是動詞ambigere&aposgo/ drive round&apos派生出來的。其成分ambi-含有both ways(二者，二)之意，故ambiguous被用以表示“模棱兩可的”或“含糊其詞的”。ambi-已被作為前綴吸收到英語中來，用以構成新詞，如ambisextrous(不分男女的，對兩性都有吸引力的)，ambidextrous(兩手都善用的)等。
