Lake Superior State Universit has published its annual New Year list of Banished Words, words or phrases that it thinks are overused or “‘problematic’ for thousands of Queen’s English ‘stakeholders’”.

  蘇必利爾湖州立大學發(fā)表了該校每年都會列出的新年禁用劣詞清單,這些單詞或詞組被認為是使用過度,或者由于那些頑守陳詞濫調(diào)的迂腐之人,這些詞語帶來了諸多問題。

The list is compiled from thousands of suggestions from around the world that come in throughout the year.

  一年來該校從世界各地收集意見,最終才編纂成為了這樣一張名單。

Here is the full 2016 list

  下面是2016年新年禁用劣詞的完整名單

1.So: “Currently, it is being overused as the first word in the answer to ANY question. For instance, ‘How did you learn to play the piano?’ Answer: ‘So my dad was in a classical music club ... .’”

  So(這樣,如此這般):“如今,這個詞已經(jīng)成為回答任何問題的首選之詞,它已經(jīng)被用濫了。比如說,'你是怎么學會彈鋼琴的?',回答是'如此這般,我爸爸是一個古典音樂俱樂部的會員。'”

2.Conversation: “We are invited to ‘join the conversation' if we want to give an opinion. This expression is overused and it is annoying.’

  Conversation(對話,談話):“每次我們有什么建議和想法,都會有人說歡迎我們‘一起來談談’,這個詞被過度使用了,令人厭煩?!?/p>

3.Problematic: “Somewhere along the line, this word became a trendy replacement for ‘that is a problem.’ I just hate it.”

  Problematic(問題來了):“不知從何時開始,這個詞開始成為一種流行用語,取代了‘that is a problem’。我就是不喜歡它?!?/p>

4.Price point: “It has no ‘point.’ It is just a ‘price.’”

  Price point(價格點):“本來就不存在什么‘點’,這個詞的意思就是價格?!?/p>

5.Secret sauce: “Usually used in a sentence explaining the ‘secret’ in excruciating public detail. Is this a metaphor for business success based on the fast food industry?”

  Secret sauce(秘制配方):“這個詞常用來描述那些令人不快的公開信息。這個詞作為一種隱喻是否產(chǎn)生于快餐行業(yè)的商業(yè)成功案例?”

6.Break the Internet: “An annoying bit of hyper about the latest saucy picture or controversy that is already becoming trite.”

  Break the Internet(玩壞了互聯(lián)網(wǎng)):“用來形容一件被人們加以夸張,令人厭煩的事情,往往是最新的重口味圖片或重口味話題,而且已經(jīng)無人不知。”

7.Walk it back: “It seems as if every politician who makes a statement has to ‘walk it back,’ meaning retract the statement, or explain it in laborious detail to the extent that the statement no longer has any validity or meaning once it has been ‘walked back.’”

  Walk it back(話說回來):“似乎所有政客在做演說的時候都要加上一句‘話說回來’,也就是收回自己說過的話,或者連篇累牘的加以解釋,以至于他說過的話一旦來個‘話說回來’,就不存在任何作用或意義了?!?/p>

8.Physicality: The word is overused by “every sports broadcaster and writer.”

  Physicality(實體感):每個體育解說員和作家都在濫用這個詞。

9.Manspreading: “Men don’t need another disgusting-sounding word thrown into the vocabulary to describe something they do … You’re just taking too much room on this train seat, be a little more polite ... .”

  Manspreading(大爺式占座):“被收錄進詞典的詞中,用來形容男士行為的聽上去惡心的詞已經(jīng)足夠了……你在公共列車上占的位置太多了,請禮貌一點……”

10.Presser: Used in the news industry to rer to a press conference.

  Presser(新聞發(fā)布會):在新型工業(yè)中用于指稱新聞發(fā)布會。
