　　今天我們來(lái)學(xué)習(xí)SAT閱讀詞匯——語(yǔ)氣限定詞。語(yǔ)氣限定詞的作用主要表現(xiàn)在能夠幫助我們對(duì)作者的語(yǔ)氣進(jìn)行預(yù)判及對(duì)行文方向的預(yù)判。例如absolute signal words出現(xiàn)在SAT閱讀觀點(diǎn)句中，表明這個(gè)觀點(diǎn)作者一定是贊同的，所以下文的行文方向?qū)⑾蛑⒄摰姆较蜻M(jìn)行下去。而possibility signal words出現(xiàn)在SAT閱讀觀點(diǎn)句中，則表明作者對(duì)這個(gè)觀點(diǎn)一定持懷疑態(tài)度，所以下文的行文方向?qū)⑾蛑g論或質(zhì)疑的角度進(jìn)行下去。我們來(lái)看下面的一段文字：

　　Does the threat of the death penalty deter people from murderous behavior more than the threat of imprisonment for life? We do not yet know with anything even approaching certainty whether the death penalty does or does not deter. The question is clearly empirical, and it is likely that sophisticated statistical techniques will eventually permit us an answer.

　　這里出現(xiàn)了likely，它屬于possibility signal words，所以我們可以預(yù)判作者對(duì)精密的統(tǒng)計(jì)技術(shù)的態(tài)度其實(shí)是懷疑的，所以下文應(yīng)該是往質(zhì)疑或駁斥的角度寫下去。而后面的文字” All statistical arguments on the death penalty are, however, excruciatingly complex and misleading.” 證明了我們的猜測(cè)。

Absolute Signal Words These words should make the reader reject a statement unless there is strong support. always, dinitely, irrutably, assuredly, indisputably, undeniably, certainly, invariably, without question, etc.
Probability Signal Words These words suggest that the information may be accurate but that other possibilities may exist. almost, probably, presumably, there is little question, etc.
Possibility Signal Words These words suggest that the ideas are subject to debate and that there is doubt as to their complete validity. apparently, may/maybe, possible, somewhat, could be, might, seems, likely, perhaps, seemingly, etc.
