GMAT語法實(shí)例講解.

　　下面給大家簡(jiǎn)單的舉一個(gè)例子：(摘自O(shè)G第12版659頁第6題)

　　In late 1997, the chambers inside the pyramid of the Pharaoh Menkaure at Giza were closed to visitors for cleaning and repair due to moisture exhaled by tourists, which raised its humidity to such levels so that salt from the stone was crystalizing and fungus was growing on the walls.

　　(A) due to moisture exhaled by tourists, which raised its humidity to such levels so that salt from the stone was crystalizing

　　(B) due to moisture that tourists had exhaled, thereby raising its humidity to such levels that salt from the stone would crystalize

　　(C) because tourists were exhaling moisture, which had raised the humidity within them to levels

　　(D) because of moisture that was exhaled by tourists raising the humidity with them to levels so high as to make the salt from the stone crystalize

　　(E) because moisture exhaled by tourists had raised the humidity within them to such levels that salt from the stone was crystalizing

　　這道題目單從長(zhǎng)短上來說，并不能算是語法考試中最長(zhǎng)的題目，但很多考生乍一看，就覺得很嚇人。我們一起簡(jiǎn)單的分析一下這個(gè)題目。首先，拿到任何一道題，如果你單純的讀完題干、讀完每個(gè)選項(xiàng)是很難發(fā)現(xiàn)任何問題的。我們就以B選項(xiàng)為例：(B) due to moisture that tourists had exhaled, thereby raising its humidity to such levels that salt from the stone would crystalize. 順著讀完，考生基本是找不出來他們所熟悉的語法問題：比如單復(fù)數(shù)一致、比如時(shí)態(tài)問題。這也就意味著，讀選項(xiàng)的時(shí)候一定要把每個(gè)選項(xiàng)帶回原文去。

　　如果用B選項(xiàng)替換掉原文劃線部分，再讀這道題：

　　In late 1997, the chambers inside the pyramid of the Pharaoh Menkaure at Giza were closed to visitors for cleaning and repair (B) due to moisture that tourists had exhaled, thereby raising its humidity to such levels that salt from the stone would crystalize and fungus was growing on the walls.

　　這時(shí)候，你會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)這句話主語：the chambers謂語：were closed to visitors，后面的for cleaning and repair是在解釋原因，due to moisture也是解釋因?yàn)槌睗瘢@個(gè)小屋子才被關(guān)閉，逗號(hào)之后thereby raising its humidity，因此提升了它的潮濕度。問題就是，提升了誰的潮濕度?如果對(duì)于前面提到的內(nèi)容還記得的話，不難判斷應(yīng)該是提升了這個(gè)屋子的潮濕度，所以這里的單數(shù)代詞its指代前面的小屋子the chambers，代詞單數(shù)，先行詞為復(fù)數(shù)，所以這個(gè)代詞單復(fù)數(shù)的問題就被我們發(fā)現(xiàn)了。

　　這一點(diǎn)，如果只是讀B選項(xiàng)，肯定是不能發(fā)現(xiàn)的。再往后讀，such that引導(dǎo)了兩個(gè)結(jié)果狀語從句：salt from the stone would crystalize跟fungus was growing on the walls.從時(shí)態(tài)上判斷，was growing是采用過去進(jìn)行時(shí)，而would crystalize采用的是過去將來時(shí)。既然這兩個(gè)分局都是跟在such that后面做結(jié)果，那么時(shí)態(tài)上應(yīng)該也是一致的。所以劃線的would crystalize肯定時(shí)時(shí)態(tài)不正確的使用。

　　所有的題目都必須要將其還原到原文當(dāng)中，聯(lián)系上下文，只有這樣才能幫助我們判斷出每個(gè)選項(xiàng)對(duì)原文劃線部分的改寫是否符合嚴(yán)格書面英語的要求。其余幾個(gè)選項(xiàng)，就請(qǐng)考生們自己看看是不是能夠判斷出來呢?(正確答案為E)
