　　劃線前面是一個完整的although從句，從句的主句清晰，所以要看的是代詞，有一個their指代主語poets.到劃線后面是賓語和介詞所以不用看?？v向比較選項，C最特別是not until... were S&C to begin 倒裝還原為 S&C were not to begin until... 這個were to結(jié)構(gòu)不優(yōu)選。ABDE的不同還有begin to do 和begin doing。to do 表示發(fā)生的時候不確定，doing表示發(fā)生的時候已經(jīng)確定了。D項那個when從句使主句變成孤零零的 it was not almost until 1900.什么也沒說，指代不清,排除。E項是強調(diào)句式 it was... that... 而且begin studying 說的是到了almost 1900這個時間就做了，由于1900這個時間是過去式了，所以用doing表示study這個動作的確定性，正確。B項在1900前沒begun(had not begun所謂的“完成時”實際上had not begun指這個動作發(fā)生在began或did not begin之前)卻用了studying表示什么確定?A的until卻用了did，好像比不上用完成時的。
